Haemorrhoid treatment with the HAL-RAR method in Tallinn

Vitarect Kliinik is a planned clinic in Tallinn, operated by Dr Mets OÜ and devoted to one method: Doppler-guided haemorrhoidal artery ligation with recto-anal repair (HAL-RAR).

How HAL-RAR works

How HAL-RAR works

The method treats the blood supply of haemorrhoids instead of removing them.

  1. Finding the artery

    A thin Doppler ultrasound probe locates the arteries that feed the haemorrhoidal cushions. A sound signal tells the surgeon when the probe is over an artery.

  2. Tying the artery

    Each artery found is closed with a stitch above the dentate line. Less blood reaches the haemorrhoids, and they shrink.

  3. Lifting the lining

    Where the lining has slipped down, it is stitched back into place (mucopexy). No tissue is cut away.

The procedure is done under anaesthesia. The drawing is a schematic and not to scale. Whether the method suits you is decided by a doctor after an examination.

Who it may suit

HAL-RAR is one of several ways to treat haemorrhoids. Whether it suits you depends on the grade of the haemorrhoids, your symptoms and earlier treatment. A doctor decides this after an examination; a web page cannot.

Some people are helped by simpler measures such as diet, fibre or medication. The doctor will go through the options with you.
